Corlin have just commenced work on the Jetty Pipebridge at the Maydown Plant of Invista. This is a very valued addition to our client base.

The contract includes the extensive washing and cleaning of the steel structure of the Pipebridge and the protective Painting of this structure using an International Paints specification. This is a spec. we have used successfully before and being an International one will be an effective and fit for purpose one as normal. Due to the limited work space, naure of the work and the fact that the site is so exposed this will be achallenging project but the team involved have the experience required of such projects to ensure its success.

We look forward to this first experience of working with Invista. We assure them of our co-operation and hope this marks the beginning of an established working relationship between both organisations.

Now for that long, hot summer that everyone is promising!

Corlin have as yet only had a few excursions to the mainland but recently we have secured a Painting & Decorating contract in Argyle Street in Glasgow.

There will be some familiarity however as the contract is with John Sisk & Son, a very valued customer that we have long lasting links with. We hope that this is a smooth running project which we are sure it will and we wish Sisk good luck with their ventures across the water.

Corlin have always enjoyed a good working relationship with John Sisk & Son, the largest Building Contractor in the Republic of Ireland. Many valued projects have been done for Sisk in conjunction with their Dublin, Galway, Sligo and Dundalk Offices.

We are very glad to see that this relationship continues with some of the projects they ahve now secured in Northern Ireland. Corlin has recently completed a contract at the new North South Ministerial Council Offices in Armagh. this work involved the full range of our services, namely Intumescent Fire Protection of steel, Firestopping and Painting & Decorating. This is a fine building that we are glad to have been associated with.

A contract for the Intumescent Fire Protection and Firestopping at Bombardier in Belfast has been secured as has one for the Intumescent Fire Protection at Seagates latest development at their site in Derry. Both jobs are just getting under way currently.

We would like to wish Sisk and in particular their Belfast Office continued success in the Northern market.

Like a lot of companies Corlin have seen a serious reduction in the amount of work on offer in the Republic in the past couple of years and therefore in the amount of projects secured. We are delighted to have secured Firestopping Contracts with BAM Builders of Kill, County Kildare at both Beaumont and St. James Hospitals in Dublin.

This is a positive sign that these type of projects are still being done in the Irish market and hopefully are an indicator of a level of growth in general again.

A Fire Remedial contract at Leinster House in 2009 was the first contract secured with BAM by Corlin in several years and these Hospital jobs are a very valued continuation with BAM following on from the Fire Protection packages at the Mullingar Resource Centre that we secured late last year.

Corlin are delighted to be working with the Mc Ginnis Group on 2 new developments at Millmount, Dundonald and at Bracken Hill, Carryduff.

Working on such projects gives everyone a lift and real hope that economic recovery isn’t too far away. As a very valued client of Corlin we are glad to be involved in these 2 projects and we wish the Mc Ginnis Group continued success with them.

Posted: 20th Sept 2009

A rural painting firm has diversified in a bid to beat the downturn that is crippling other firms reliant on the construction industry.

Corlin Developments is now specialising in heritage conservation painting, as well as fire protection, and is advertising for staff at a time when lay-offs are widespread in the industry.

Based in the border town of Castlederg, Co Tyrone, the company has increased its turnover by stg£500,000 (€562,000) in the past year.

‘‘We are able to survive by focusing and specialising,” said director Eugene McLaughlin. ‘‘We have a special niche, and that’s what carries us through. We also invest in training, and that’s carrying us through as well,” he said.

‘‘We do our own training in house, and all our workers are direct employees. They are there years and years. A few of them are there as long as myself; they are people that grew up with the firm.”

McLaughlin said the company’s fire protection work complemented its heritage conservation painting. Corlin is currently working on fire protection in Leinster House.

Earlier this year, Corlin finished work on restoring the interior of Headfort House, Co Meath. McLaughlin said the Headfort House contract required a degree of detailed work that ‘‘had to be seen to be believed’’.

Headfort House contains the only complete interior in Ireland by 18th century Scottish architect Robert Adam.

The company is now working on the 18th century St Patrick’s Church in Slane, Co Meath, and the listed Huntly House in Belfast.

Corlin was founded in 2003, replacing Roulson McLaughlin, which had been in business since the early 1970s.

McLaughlin said that Roulson McLaughlin , had ‘‘dabbled’’ in heritage conservation painting, completed some work for the North’s National Trust and worked on the Parliament Buildings at Stormont.

In July, Corlin won the award as Johnstone’s Painter of the Year for its work on the restoration of the interior of Belfast City Hall.

To win the award, Corlin saw off more than 100 other entrants. It was the first time in 25 years the award had gone to an Irish firm. ‘‘I never thought it would come a cross ,” McLaughlin said.
